Fine Motor Skill
Fine motor skills are the coordination of small muscle movements, (i.e. fingers and thumbs) which are used to write, draw and button. Gross Motor Skill
The development of gross motor skills enable greater control over the large muscles of the body for activities such as crawling, walking and running. Choosing toys for gross motor skills will depend on the age of the child. Choose a baby walker for toddlers 1-2 years old, rocking horses for children 2-3 years old, and scooters for children 3 years and older. Hand/Eye Coordination
Hand/Eye coordination is the ability to coordinate information received through the eyes to control, guide and direct the hands in the accomplishment of a given task. Toys that encourage hand eye coordination involve activities such as grasping, catching, and writing. Recommended toys: Lacing Beads (SRP: $20), Twisted Tossing (SRP: $30), Miracle Pounding (SRP: $30).
Visual
Visual perception or vision helps children understand what they see in order to identify different qualities. Size, shape, color and spatial perception can be improved with colorful activity toys. Recommended toys: Roller (SRP: $8), Water blocks (SRP: $30), Tower Pounding (SRP: $40).
Auditory
Auditory ability is the perception of sound in the surrounding environment. The development of this ability assists children to identify and locate the presence of activities in their environment. Toys can be simple or sophisticated by offering a variety of tones and sounds. Recommended toys: Banjo (SRP: $30), Percussion Set (SRP: $40), Musical Band (SRP: $55).
Social Development
Activities for children to engage in social play are the best methods for children to learn socially acceptable behavior such as patience, reciprocity, cooperation, and sharing. Social interactions also allow children to develop moral reasoning and a mature sense of values. PlanToys recommends toys that are educational and open on all sides for social interaction. Concentration
Developing concentration skills helps children learn how to focus on tasks at hand. A great way to develop concentration skills is through open-ended play. Language & Communication
Language & communication skill development encompass listening abilities, comprehension, and verbal interaction. Children are then able to use these skills for conversation, written language and reading abilities. Musical
Musical toys improve motor skills, hand eye coordination and auditory development. Musical toys are also a favorite of many children because of the delightful sounds they are able to create. Logical Thinking
When children are encouraged to use logical thinking processes they are able to solve problems. Toys that encourage use of reasoning, structure and relationships are ideal for developing logical thinking skills. Mathematical

Creativity & Imagination
Toys that are open-ended help children develop creativity and imagination. Role play, imaginative play and dramatic play are great ways to foster cognitive growth in children.
